Calls for Artists: Opportunities

Dear Artists,

We get calls and competition information from our own Gallery 140, from other local venues, local events, and all over the place.  We will list them here as they come in and move them down as their deadlines pass.  Let us know if you find the information useful.

We have linked a sample copy of the 2017 Memoranda of Understanding that artists must review and sign before they exhibit at Gallery 140. They are not written in stone, and we are always willing to discuss possibilities and consider exceptions.

We want to see Gallery 140 become a true Community Gallery,
where the exhibits are planned, executed, curated, and supervised by artists!

2017-2018 CALLS FOR ARTISTS

ArtBark

Greetings!  We are excited to announce our Call to Artists for ArtBark 2017! ArtBark is in its fourth year as the largest fundraiser for The Animal Welfare Coalition of Northeastern New Mexico. The AWC provides not only outreach and animal welfare education (including food and low cost spay/neuter programs) in San Miguel and surrounding counties, but they have taken on the tremendous physical and emotional responsibility of administering the Las Vegas area animal shelter. The AWC had nearly 2000 intakes of dogs and cats last year. With the goal of saving as many lives as possible, the AWC arranges transports with other rescues and shelters, as well as facilitating local adoptions at the shelter. They also administer rescue services to sick, injured and forgotten animals. All of this amazing work takes time, effort and also money.

Due to the incredible generosity of area artists and artisans, ArtBark provides a substantial portion of the AWC’s yearly budget. We are seeking donations of art, jewelry and fine crafts for a live and silent auction event to be held at the beautiful Gallery at NMHU Kennedy Alumni Hall on November 18, 2017 from 4pm – 7pm.

If you would like to participate…

You are encouraged to submit (via submission form) one to three jpeg images. Work will be curated by Bob Read of the NMHU Ray Drew Gallery. One or all your submissions may be included, depending partly on the number of participants. Types of art we seek are: two-dimensional (photographs, paintings, drawings), sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, fiber, metal, wood, mixed-media or found-object art.

You have the option of donating 50% or 100% of the purchase price to the AWC. Starting bids will be based on the piece’s stated value by the artist. Artists may suggest a starting bid, but the curator will make the final decision. A live auction of the most highly-bid-on works will take place at the end of the evening.

The deadline to have your name and logo included in the printed materials is August 25th. Please click on this link for the submission form, which will guide you through the process of providing us everything we need from artists to make this a hugely successful art auction for our little (and big) animals. The form is self-explanatory and provides important details. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 720-201-2195, and I will be happy to help you navigate the process!

Thank you so very much for your consideration!

Art Walk…Pub and Grub?

ARTISTS AND ART LOVERS!  ARE YOU INTERESTED IN THE NEXT STUDIO TOUR, ART WALK, OR OTHER EVENT?

The 2016 Steering Committee was recently invited to meet, to analyze the past and ponder the future of the Studio Tour. The consensus seemed to be a willingness to participate in another tour, but not enough momentum to actually get the ball rolling.

Some fun brainstorming led to great ideas for a Art Walk in conjunction with the possibility of a Pub and Grub tour of our historic Old Town district al0ong with live music.

This plan is presently incubating, waiting for volunteers to bring it to life.  Information?
