The Arts Council of Las Vegas, New Mexico announces the 33nd annual Las Vegas People’s Fair! This year’s fair is scheduled for the culminating weekend of Heritage Week, Saturday, August 13 and Sunday, August 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (rain or shine) in the Carnegie Library Park. The park is located at 6th and National Streets in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
The 2011 People’s Fair will host over 50 arts, crafts and food vendors from around Northern Mexico and beyond. In addition, the fair will feature a variety of local and regional performing artists throughout the hours of the fair, including traditional Spanish dance performances, well-known local singers, mariachi performers, and local bands.
Historically, all People’s Fair items must be handmade. Vendors present a wide-variety of items, from handmade jewelry and pottery to tasty gooseberry jams to fine arts collectibles to handcrafted toys. Big hits at last year’s event included hand-painted t shirts, hot salsa, and elegant tin work ornaments by local artists. In addition to the arts and crafts, the Carnegie Library holds its annual Book Sale on the fair grounds. Browsers can find an eclectic assortment of literature from science fiction tomes to medical reference books.
Fair foods include roasted turkey legs and the crowd-pleasing roasted corn. Local vendors offer favorites such as Frito pie, smothered burritos, and homemade lemonade. Fair goers can enjoy a picnic at one of the tables under the shade of Carnegie Park’s elm trees.
Faire admission and participation is FREE for all. For further information, contact the Las Vegas Arts Council at (505)-425-1085 or by email at lvac@cybermesa.com.
