DISTANCE on the NMHU campus

DISTANCE is an exhibit of installation art made through cultural exchange. The project pairs a person from another country with a student to develop a small installation that reveals the meaningful exchange that can happen electronically and with the communication tools provided by the web. The exchange between the two is expected to result in a mix of cultural, social, and environmental information from different parts of the world and to help students build communication skills and cultural awareness in international settings.

Distance was organized by Media Arts Assistant Professor David Sanchez Burr at New Mexico Highlands University. Along with his art practice and teaching, David’s curatorial experience includes The Wildlife Divide, a series of art events and workshops related to the high contrast between urban and natural habitats, Multiplexer a curatorial project exclusive to video art and ansurbana a multidisciplinary project involving sound, sculpture and video. He is a published recording artist and has received recent awards from The Nevada Arts Council, The Media Arts Project, ISEA, the Art Production Fund and the National Endowment for the Arts.
